‘Comedian’ deletes Twitter account after twitterati dig up his embarrassing jokes on muslims

Kunal Kamra, who has recently shot to fame for hating on Prime Minister Modi, has deactivated his Twitter account after his embarrassing jokes on Muslims were retweeted by Twitter users. Kamra tried to delete his old tweets before deactivating, but not before twitterati had taken screenshots.

While most of them were not even funny, many just seemed to be in poor taste and threatened to go against the image of a social justice warrior (SJW) that he recently created for himself like most comedians. Owing to the clout he has gathered due to his anti-Modi stand, these tweets may not have been appreciated by his ‘friends’.

Some even tagged his new friend Shehla Rashid, the freelance protestor who doubles up as student at JNU during her free time.

Shehla, who does not mind agreeing with Kamra when he spews hatred, doesn’t seem to have enjoyed this jibe.

He continued his deleting spree which could have offended his new found support base.

But it seems he got way too embarrassed by his jokes on Muslims, which he perhaps got tired of deleteing, that he just deactivated his account. As we gear up for 2019 general elections, factual inaccuracy and political propaganda in guise of comedy may be the flavour of the season. OpIndia reached out to Kunal to know his reasons for deactivating his account, but he has not yet responded. We will update the report if we hear back from him.

Update:

We got in touch with Mr. Kunal Kamra to get his version of the events. We asked him why he deactivated his twitter account and whether he deactivated because he was embarrassed of his past tweets now doing the rounds on twitter.

Mr. Kamra said that he deleted his twitter account because his number was made public, following which he got over 100 phone calls and messages. He says he quit twitter to preserve his sanity. He did not however elaborate as to how deleting his twitter account would have solved the problem of him getting phone calls as his number was leaked by other social media users and the screenshot was viral.

He said that his joke on Muslims, which is doing the rounds is hilarious and that he did it for 7 months on stage and got a laugh from the audience every single time. He says he deleted that joke because a joke like that is easy to construct. It is on the expense of the lesser privileged and he has outgrown that trope. He wants to punch up and not punch down. He said he did not delete it because he was embarrassed of scared of the ‘liberals’.

He also added that he may not return to twitter since it is a waste of time.

Editor’s note :

On the subject of Mr. Kamra’s number being made public, It was Mr. Kunal Kamra who had himself tweeted his number in 2015. It was that tweet that was retweeted by some on Social Media after his old tweets became viral.
