Bihar Congress workers beat up each other, shout ‘Narendra Modi Zindabad’

The Bihar unit of the Indian National Congress seems to have become a new source of political drama and embarrassment for their central leadership.

We had recently reported how its former state president, Ashok Choudhary had been expelled by the party, after it was alleged that he was planning a rebellion in the party and wanted to switch over to the JD(U). After his expulsion, he had described his expulsion by Sonia Gandhi as “insulting” to himself and to Dalits.

Now it seems that the Bihar Congress has decided to take things to the next level.

In a drama that happened at party’s office in Patna earlier today, slogans like “Narendra Modi Zindabad” were chanted before a Bihar Congress meeting. On top of it, two groups of party workers, one led by former state President Ashok Choudhary and the other led by current president president Kaukab Quadri, clashed against each other.

From media reports, it turns out that a meeting of state representatives was called by the party, and Ashok Choudhary was excluded from it. It reportedly angered him and he reached the meeting venue at Sadakat Ashram with his supporters. There the party added insult to injury by preventing him from entering the meeting.

As a result of that, the party workers clashed and while the fight was going on, a few workers started their “Narendra Modi Zindabad” chants, which further escalated the matter. Soon the police arrived and controlled the situation.

According to reports, during the fight Ashok Choudhary was manhandled and clothes of his supporters were torn off:

After the whole incident, a heavy police force has been deployed at the Sadakat Ashram. Media persons too were denied entry inside the Ashram after the whole ruckus.

Media reports suggest that after the incident, the Bihar Congress has sent a report to the Congress high-command, and the party may even expel Ashok Choudhary.
