Social media slams journalist Faye DSouza for spreading fake news in the Ryan school murder matter

The Ryan International school in Gurugram witnessed a chilling murder of a class 2 student named Pradyuman in September this year. The initial investigation by the Gurugram police had brought forth a chilling theory that, a school bus conductor had tried to sexually assault the child before killing him.

Soon the CBI was roped into this investigation which has resulted in a sensational twist into the matter. As per reports, the CBI has now arrested a class XI boy of the same school who as per reports killed the poor child in order to force the postponement of an upcoming examination and a parent-teacher meeting.

The Gurugram police commissioner has in response now claimed that they aren’t fully aware of the evidence present with the CBI and claimed that they had carried out a probe in an early stage.

While this whole episode was playing out, Faye DSouza the editor of mirror now, possibly decided to add even more sensationalism to the whole matter by tweeting this:

She almost out of nowhere put forth the motive behind the crime, even though as per reports, her speculation could not be further from the truth.

As per a Deccan Herald report on the incident, the CBI has ruled out the sexual assault angle and further ascribed the crime as the accused’s effort to get an exam and parent teacher meeting postponed for the day.

Also ANI carried a quotation about the CBI negating the emergence of any sexual assault theory during the investigation:

The press release issued by the CBI merely mentions the arrest of the boy in the case CBI’s actions in the matter so far without shedding any light about the possible motive. So not only has the agency not official hinted about any instance of sexual assault it hasn’t even laid out a possible motive for the murder.

People as a result reacted to Faye DSouza’s tweet and called for a retraction:

This raises the question as to why would any editor associated with a respectable news channel make such an assertion which adds further sensationalism to an already gruesome case? Would she now either retract or at-least give an explanation as to how she reached the conclusion about sexual assault being a motive in the case?

While news anchors like Faye prioritise sensationalism over facts, once can only imagine what Pradyuman’s parents must be going through during these trying times.
