FIR filed against NCW member for taking suicide case diary in rape case

A case has been registered against National Commission for Women member Sushma Sahu for allegedly taking away original documents related to Bolpur rape case from the investigating officers and threatening them with dire consequences. Last week, a 20 year old girl set herself ablaze in Bolpur, West Bengal, after being allegedly raped by a construction worker. The accused Sheikh Hafijul, who is a mason by profession, allegedly took photos of the victim and used them to blackmail and rape her. Unable to bear the trauma, the girl set herself ablaze on December 12 and succumbed to her injuries after 10 days.

As per reports, Sahu had visited the house of the victim and later asked the police to give her a photocopy of the case documents. As the police officer asked for some time to get the photocopy done, Sahu allegedly took off with the original documents, asking the investigating officer to collect them from her later.

Investigating officer, Sub-inspector Subir Chakraborty, further said that Sahu even threatened to throw away his uniform and threatened him with dire consequences.

Following this, a case has been registered against Sahu under IPC sections 379 (commitment of theft), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 355 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour person) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).
