All accused in the Mecca Masjid blast case acquitted, Congress’ ‘Hindu Terror’ smokescreen torn apart

All accused in the Mecca Masjid blast case were acquitted by a special NIA court today in Hyderabad. According to reports, the NIA court stated that the evidence against the accused was not satisfactory.

The blasts on May 18, 2007, had claimed 9 lives and 58 others were injured. In the violence that followed after the blast, 5 more people had died in police firing. This is not the first acquittal in this case either. According to reports, after the blasts, the police suspected the involvement of Pakistan based terror group Harkat-ul-Jihad-e-Islami (HuJI) in the blasts. The Hyderabad police had also interrogated about 90 men and charge-sheeted 21 of them including one Billal, who was considered the mastermind and was linked with HuJI. Billal was killed in a shootout and on January 1, 2009, all the accused were acquitted by the Nampally criminal court.

After the acquittal of all the accused by a court, the case was handed over to CBI in 2009. the CBI suggested a whole new angle in the case and filed a charge sheet against RSS pracharak Devendra Gupta and activist Lokesh Sharma, both were reportedly working for another RSS man Sunil Joshi, all from Madhya Pradesh. From the CBI, the case was then handed over to the NIA in 2011. The ten accused charge-sheeted by NIA were all ‘Right Wing’ Hindu activists. Swami Aseemanand was charge-sheeted by the NIA including 9 others.

The 10 accused charged by the NIA were Devendra Gupta, Lokesh Sharma, Sandeep Dange, Ramchandra Kalsangra, Sunil Joshi, Bharat Rateshwar, Rajendra Choudhary, Tejram Parmar, Amit Chouhan and Swami Aseemanand.

Among them, only Swami Aseemanand, Lokesh Sharma, Devendra Gupta, Bharat Rateswar and Rajendra Choudhary were arrested and faced trials. Sunil Joshi was murdered during the trials, Dange and Kalsangra were absconding and investigations against Parmar and Chauhan are still on-going.

According to reports, more than 220 witnesses were examined and over 441 documents were produced before the court. The court has found that the pieces of evidence submitted were unsatisfactory and insufficient to hold the accused guilty.

The charge sheet filing and subsequent arrests of these people happened at a time when the former UPA government was crying hoarse over ‘Hindu Terror.’ Right from the Malegaon blasts of 2006 and the subsequent arrest of Lt. Col. Purohit and Sadhvi Pragya, the dominant narrative of ‘Hindu Terror’ was being propagated widely and many would notice that how the ‘ Hindu Terror’ narrative was pasted into this case after the CBI took over the investigations in 2009.

From Malegaon Blasts, Samjhauta Express blasts, Ajmer blasts to Hyderabad blasts, during a certain period of time, a certain group of political leaders in power had used the same narrative that has been peddled over and over again to paint Hindus as terrorists and it now seems evident, that the entire narrative was based on nothing but rhetoric.

The blame for this terror fell on the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. All the accused in the Mecca Masjid blast case were from Abhinav Bharat, a group supported by the RSS. The former Home MInisters P Chidambaram and Sushil Kumar Shinde have both used this term. Congress and its supporters have used this term again and again. The charges against Lt Col. Purohit did not hold and he was granted bail and reinstated with full rank and honours with the Army. After today’s verdict when the accused were all acquitted by the court, the false narrative has finally fallen apart and exposed its propagators again.

Shocking details of the UPA’S attempts to propagate the idea of Hindu Terror were revealed by Former Undersecretary of Home Affairs RVS Mani. He had explained in detail how carefully and cleverly the term Hindu Terror was coined and executed to paint a false picture. Mani had explained that Lt Col. Purohit was framed by the then UPA government because he was breaking the back of Islamic Radicalisation groups in India. He had stated that in all the cases, be it Malegaon blasts, Samjhauta Blasts and Batla House encounter, a false narrative was created by the UPA leaders to blame it all on ‘Hindu Terror’.

RVS Mani has expressed the similar words in case of the Mecca Masjid blasts too. He has gone further to add that all the pieces of evidence were engineered to propagate the false narrative.

After today’s acquittals, there are already cries from the usual voices that are claiming bias and condemning the criminal justice system of the country. But interestingly, the criminal justice system was not questioned at all when the 21 people accused by the Hyderabad police got acquitted or the accused in the 2G scam were declared not guilty. The people who were the main powers behind the ‘Hindu Terror’ propaganda have now moved on to soft Hindutva rhetoric sensing changing tides, but sadly, there is no compensation for the pain and harassment that people like Lt Col Purohit, Pragya Thakur, Swami Aseemanand and others had to live with all these years.

Congress’ loud shrills questioning this verdict and all the evidence that they concocted the ‘Hindu Terror’ bogey points to the strategy being Soft Hindutva in public, minority appeasement in private and creating caste divide in secret.

‘Hindu Terror’ was a smokescreen created to fool the people of this nation and protect a chosen few, that screen is being torn apart finally.
