Watch: Hyderabad’s Osmania Hospital infested with stray dogs and cats

Once the pride of the Nizams, government aided Osmania Hospital now lies in shambles, with stray dogs and cats roaming around freely in the hospital premises, creating a ruckus. Innumerable dogs and cats have been seen running around the hospital wards.

Reports have emerged that these umpteen number of stray animals seen roaming around the hospital wards are a constant threat to the patients and their attendants. These animals have often been seen sleeping on patient beds, thereby increasing threat of infection to patients and contaminating the medicines.

While the problem of stray animals inside the hospital is not new, a video which has recently gone viral on social media reminding people of the horrific condition of the hospital. Reportedly, when hospital authorities were approached, they responded with a very casual and callous attitude. According to them, there are five entrances to the hospital and it is very difficult to stop the animals from entering the premises.

In December last year, the dreary conditions of the hospital came to limelight when face of the body of U. Madhu was eaten up by rodents in the mortuary. Officials had reportedly given the excuse that their hands were tied on this issue as the Integrity Hospital Facility Management that deals with pest control was equipped only to treat insects and bed bugs. Last year in January, too, the menace of stray cats and dogs in the hospital had erupted.

One of the walls of the building, according to the authorities, is also broken. Since the property is under dispute, the wall cannot be rebuilt, thus allowing these animals to have a free run. They also said that the officials from the municipal corporation clear the premises once in every three days, and nothing else can be done to curb this situation.

This is not the first time, Hyderabad’s Osmania General Hospital, is in news. Earlier too, there have been reports on the pathetic conditions of the hospitals, but somehow the government seems very casual and refuse to take any concrete measures to improve the iconic hospital’s conditions.
