The three shows you must watch on Ekta Kapoor’s ALTBalaji app

Last year signalled a cheer for the silver screen as Ekta Kapoor released the AltBalaji app. Considering the massive upswing in digital content consumption many thought this was another step towards the ever revolutionising entertainment industry. Unfortunately, the content didn’t match up to the promises initially. However, now they are  clearly curating and adding some good content.

It is thus time, that the content being added is evaluated for quality. Here, I have attempted to review three of the many series’ I have watched on the app.

Karrle tu hi Mohabbat (Season 1& 2) : 2/5

Plot :

Superstar alcoholic Ram Kapoor meets rehab counsellor Dr Tripura Sundari Nagrajan and their chemistry ridden love hate story ensues.

Cast :

Ram Kapoor as Karan Khanna

Sakshi Tanwar as Dr. Tripurasundari Nagrajan

Shweta Kawatra as Radhika

Tanvi Vyas as Sherry

Farida Patel Venkat as Amma

The USP of the show is of course the casting of Ram Kapoor and Sankshi Tanwar together. They share an absolute sizzling Chemistry – Chemistry with a capital C. When one thinks of Chemistry, the first on-screen couple that comes to mind is King Khan and Kajol. The Ram Kapoor – Sankshi Tanwar jodi is just that on television.

The love hate story is cliched but watchable and cute especially because of the consistent humor in the writing. The show has not gone too far from the typical TV serials. However, the three things that keep this show going is that they don’t diverge too much from the plot, fun banter and of course, excellent performance by the leads.

Ideal watch for those who love all things romance or are Ram-Sakshi fans.

Kehne Ko Hai Humsafar : 3/5

Plot :

Rohit Mehra (Ronit Roy) a middle aged successful Chartered accountant pursues an extra marital affair with career oritented interior designer Ananya (Mona Singh) while being married for over 20 years to Poonam (Gurdeep Kohli).

Cast :

Director : Anil V Kumar

Ronit Roy – Rohit

Mona Singh – Ananya

Gurdeep Kohli – Poonam

Pooja Banerjee – Bani

Palak Jain -Nikki

Manraj Singh – Arya

Neena Gupta of ‘Saans’ fame has come back with a story that will make you think, judge and be conflicted all at the same time.

Gupta and the director managed to keep me hooked by dwelling deep into the feelings and emotions of the characters. I was left confused with my thoughts and emotions while watching this complicated story of love, marriage and family. Their reactions I had while binge watching the show was a mix pot of love, hate, anger and sympathy. A heady mix of emotions that has been beautifully brought out by the cast and crew.

A hindi series which is not weighed down by the usual run of the mill plot but a refreshing, relatable story of human emotions evoking the same from the viewer too.

Haq se : 3.5/5

A picturesque web series following the life of the Mirza family in troubled yet beautiful Kashmir.

Cast :

Parul Gulati as Jannat Mirza

Surveen Chawla as Dr. Meher Mirza

Rajeev Khandelwal as Dr. Naushad Rizvi

Aanchal Sharma as Bahira Mirza

Nikessha Rangwala as Amal Mirza

Rukhsar Rehman as Rabiyah Mirza

Simone Singh as Fatima Khala

Parvail Gulati as Tabish Azad/Azi

Karanvir Sharma as Raghu Thapar

Ravi Khemu as Hashim Mirza

Director Ken Gosh has managed to deliver a beautiful series in terms of visuals and the story. An interesting trivia for book lovers – Haq se is adapted from Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. It is a story that revovles around Mirza family women – the sisters Meher , Jannat , Amal and Bano, their Mother Rabiyah and Khalla/Aunt Fatima.

Their fight for equal rights, struggle, happiness, heartbreak in the backdrop of drama, changing culture, conflicting ideologies and turmoil makes for a fascinating watch. Ghosh has managed to intertwine each of it perfectly while giving us well developed characters with distinctive personalities.

‘Haq se’ is definitely amongst the best series on the app and worth your binge watch session.
