Youth Congress and AIMIM leaders named as accused in post Namaz violence at MP’s Burhanpur

The Madhya Pradesh police have filed cases against Congress, AIMIM and Muslim League leaders, with regards to a mob rampage in the state’s Burhanpur, following last Friday’s Namaz. As per local reports, a total of 48 people have been sent to jail till now in connection with the crime.

On Friday it was reported that a thousand strong mob protesting against the Kathua rape case went out of control, and started to vandalise property and assault shopkeepers. After the police attempted to restore order, the mob became further aggrieved and started pelting stones on the cops.

Since then with the help of CCTV footage, photos and other clues, the police have named youth Congress leader Harshit Thakur and his uncle cum expelled Congress leader Thakur Surendra Singh as accused. The uncle-nephew duo is currently absconding. With regards to the accusations against the Congress leader, the state Youth Congress chief Kunal Chowdhary accused the police of acting under political pressure.

Besides them, the chief advocate of Muslim League Zahiruddin Khan and AIMIM’s district chief Sohail Hashmi are being tacked down by the police, who claim they will be arrested soon. It has been claimed that it was Zahiruddin who had sought permission for the said rally.

Apart from the said leaders, members belonging to the Muslim league named Hafizuddin, Dayanand Tayde, Mudassar Ahmed and Noor Ahmed have been declared as accused.

A total of five cases have been filed against the accused pertaining to mutiny, disturbing the peace and obstructing officials on duty. The police are also planning action against those sharing and liking objectionable posts on social media.

The police on Monday also arrested a national level cricket player and 18 others in connection with the violence. Besides this, the police are trying to identify 15 other accused in the matter. The associates of the accused incidentally tried to lay siege on the police station on Monday which resulted in the authorities having to drive them away. The police also conducted the medical tests of those arrested inside the police station and transferred them out the city under tight security cover.
