PM Modi connects birthplaces of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita as part Indo-Nepal Ramayana circuit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nepalese Prime Minister SP Sharma Oli on Friday inaugurated an Indo-Nepal bus service between Ayodhya and Janakpur, as part of the development of a Ramayana Circuit:

This bus was flagged off after PM Modi offered prayers at the Janki Temple in Janakpur which is believed to be the birthplace of Goddess Sita. This Janki temple was built back in 1910, and all the three stories comprise solely of stone and marble. The Prime Minister is currently on a two-day tour of Nepal from 11 to 12 May. Following the temple event, the PM would be given a civic reception at Barhabigha Rangabhoomi ground.

As reported by Times Now, PM Modi while addressing a crowd at the temple, called the introduction of the bus service connecting the birthplaces of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita as a historic moment. He also informed the crowd that India and Nepal would work towards building a Ramayana circuit. A video of the PM’s temple visit was tweeted out by the BJP:

As per a PTI report, the Ramayana circuit would comprise 15 locations in India including Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Nashik, Hampi and Rameshwaram.

Going by a Moneycontrol report, this Ramayana circuit is part of a grander tourism plan under the Swadesh Darshan scheme, which comprises of a total 13 such plans, including a Krishna circuit. The Ramayana circuit would retrace the destinations where Lord Ram is believed to have travelled. The development would include extending facilities like accommodation and drinking water to the pilgrims.
