Doctors hope for full recovery after Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s health improves significantly

The health of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has seen a significant improvement leading the AIIMS doctors to believe that he would soon make a full recovery, Hindustan Times has reported. The report quotes AIIMS doctor Randeep Guleria as stating that they were hoping for a full recovery in the next few days.

As per an ANI feed, Vajpayee’s health had improved significantly in the last 48 hours, with his kidney function, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure being back to normal and being maintained without artificial support. Overall his health was being classified as “good”.

Another doctor Aarti Vij stated that Vajpayee’s health was stable and he was being treated with injectable antibiotics. He as per the report was responding to the treatment and would remain under the hospital’s care until the infection was controlled.

The former prime minister was admitted to the AIIMS on 11 June, following complaints of urinary tract infection, chest congestion, and low urine output.

Following his admission, he was visited by various political leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, veteran BJP leader LK Advani, BJP President Amit Shah and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Incidentally, Vajpayee was even visited by Congress President Rahul Gandhi who decided to politicise the former prime minister’s health by exuding the culture of his party. He was quoted as saying that, “Vajpayee ji is ill, who went first? I went to meet him at the hospital. Though he fought against us, Vajpayee ji worked for nation-building. This is our culture”.

Rahul was later slammed for his politicisation by social media users, who were quick to remind him about the manner in which his party had ill-treated their own leader PV Narasimha Rao.

It was even alleged that AIIMS had explicitly asked Rahul not to visit for health concerns but he ignored their pleas and went to meet Vajpayee anyway to score political points.
