Prime Minister Modi was at Rashtrapati Bhawan along with President Kovind today to receive Seychelles President Danny Faure, who arrived in India on Friday for a six-day trip to hold bilateral talks with India on a range of issues. While, the Seychelles President was welcomed with a ceremonial reception an Indian Air Force guard collapsed due to heat stroke. PM Modi, after welcoming President Faure, returned to the ceremony to enquire about the health of the guard.
It is not unusual for a guard to collapse especially due to the weather conditions and prolonged periods of strict postures. Most of the times it is because of the heat or the locking of knees which blocks the circulation of blood to the person’s head causing the person to collapse.
It is more common in standing formation like the one the IAF guard was during the president’s ceremonial reception.
The national capital has been facing severe heat with temperature above 3 to 5 degrees above normal than what is around during this time of the year, while the MeT department has said there will be some relief from the heat only towards the end of the month.
