Mountains, oceans and sky: Indian armed forces give new dimensions to International Yoga Day

Today is International Yoga Day. After PM Modi endorsed it and encouraged people to participate enthusiastically, the Yoga Day on June 21 every year is getting more and more popular worldwide. On the occasion of Yoga Day today, people from all over the world have shared pictures and videos of performing Yoga. The Indian Armed Forces, however, have taken the celebrations to different levels, quite literally.

The soldiers of Indo-Tibetian Border Police who guard the Himalayas or Himveers as they are popularly known, practised Yoga at the height of 19,000 feet.

The ITBP official Twitter handle also posted a video showing the brave personnel practising Surya Namaskar in the icy terrains on the high Himalayas.

India’s Navy forms its major defence force as we are surrounded by the sea on 3 sides. Indian Navy shared some of the most beautiful and glorious images of Yoga Day.

The Indian Naval warship INS Sahyadri has just wrapped up the India-US-Japan Malabar Excercise with the US and Japanese Naval forces. Personnel on board the INS Sahyadri, which is now headed to Hawai to participate in the bi-annual RIMPAC exercise with the US Pacific Fleet, invited their Japanese counterparts too to celebrate Yoga Day together.

Naval Divers of the Eastern Naval Command also displayed their Yoga Skills on the beaches of Visakhapatnam.

While terrestrial forces and Navy personnel were practising Yoga on their respective battlefields, Indian Air Force decided to do the same. Wing Commander KBS Samyal and Wing Commander Gajanand Yadav of the paratroopers training school took literally to the skies to perform Yoga, at the height of 15,000 feet!

Indian armed forces are unmatched in their valour and skills. The images of International Yoga Day celebrations prove that they are unmatched in style and ingenuity too.
