According to Sunetra Choudhury of NDTV, the tweet was made following specific instruction from former Congress President Sonia Gandhi. CEO of NDTV, Suparna Singh, tweeted the NDTV journalist’s revelation as well.

Pranab Mukherjee has been facing intense pressure from members of his former party to cancel his visit to Nagpur. His own daughter, Sharmishta Mukherjee, has also urged her father to reconsider his decision on Twitter.

Ever since the news of Pranab Mukherjee’s address to RSS cadres became public, Congress party members have been miffed with the decision of the former party stalwart. Veerappa Moily went to the extent of asserting that Mukherjee’s address to RSS cadres will create ‘undesirable difference’ in the country. Several Congress leaders had even written to him requesting him to change his mind. If Sunetra Choudhury’s claims are true, then it appears the pressure on Mukherjee was built at the behest of the Nehru-Gandhi family.
