Congress leader backs Owaisi’s ‘how many Muslims recruited in the Armed Forces’ statement

Congress leader Hussain Dalwai has come out in support of the statement of Asaduddin Owaisi that created a huge controversy recently. Dalwai has stated that what Owaisi is questioning is right and PM Modi should announce that Indian Muslims have the right to join the armed forces.

Asaduddin Owaisi, the President of the All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has stated recently that he wants PM Modi to reveal how many jobs he has given to Muslims in CRPF, CISF, RAF and BSF in the last four years of being in power.

Not stopping at that, Owaisi had even later defended his statement and asked that the government should provide data and again claimed that the government has not done enough for Muslims in the last four years.

Owaisi’s statement was condemned and criticised by many people, including army veterans.

Dalwai is a Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra. He gave the statement after being asked whether asking the religious identity of soldiers is disrespectful to the armed forces. It is notable here that Congress leaders have many times used disrespectful words for the armed forces. Earlier Congress leader Akhilesh Pratap Singh had used the word ‘cowards’ for army veterans in a live debate show.

Congress had also questioned the veracity of the surgical strikes and raised questions over the Army’s performance. Congress leaders frequently patronise separatists and blame the armed forces.

The Indian Army has no caste/religion based recruitment process and any Indian citizen meeting the required criteria can join the armed forces. Also, joining the armed forces in India is voluntary, so by citing the under-representation of any community and holding the government responsible for it is not only wrong but it is a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the armed forces.
