Government planning reforms in madarsas.

A government school in Uttar Pradesh has been found renamed as ‘Islamia Primary School’. As per reports, the school has been observing its weekly holiday on Friday instead of Sunday and all its documents are maintained in Urdu.

According to reports, the government primary school in Navalpur village in Salempur block, Deoria has been taking its weekly off on Fridays and been remaining open on Sundays. A team lead by the Block Education Officer reportedly visited the school on Friday and found it closed. They also reportedly found the school’s attendance register, admission registers and teacher’s attendance registers to be maintained in the Urdu language.

Upon investigation, the team reportedly found that the school has been remaining closed on every Friday and on Fridays the mid-day meal details were mentioned as zero. The school has been remaining opened on Sundays. The Block Education Officer has notified the District Magistrate over the matter as it is a violation of government rules.

As per reports, the school’s headmaster Khurshid Ahmed, who has been posted there for ten years, has made these changes without notifying the government authorities and obtaining any permission.

Islamic Primary School

Headmaster Khurshid had even changed the school’s name from Primary School, Navalpur to Islamia Primary School, Navalpur. According to a report in Jagran, the locals in the area were till now under the impression that the school is being run by the minorities department. When newly appointed BEO Gyanchandra Mishra visited the school on Friday along with other education officials, they found the school closed. All the teaching staff appointed in the school are Muslims and most of the students are Muslims too.

The headmaster has reportedly stated that the school has always been run in a similar manner because 95% of the pupils are Muslims. The District Magistrate has reportedly directed the Basic Shiksha Adhikari to probe the matter. Clarification has been sought from the headmaster and the BEO has reportedly stated that action might be initiated against the headmaster and staff for flouting government rules.
