The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to immerse the ashes of the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away on 16th August, in 100 rivers across the country along with several prayer meetings organized in the Delhi, state capitals, district headquarters and panchayats.
The programme started on Sunday, when the ashes of Atal Bihari Vajpayee were immersed in the river Ganga at Haridwar in the presence of the BJP president Amit Shah, Union home minister Rajnath Singh, Vajpayee’s foster daughter Namita Kaul Bhattacharya, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and other family members.

The BJP had earlier planned to immerse Vajpayee’s ashes in 18 urns across various rivers of Uttar Pradesh, which has now been re-scheduled to include more than 100 rivers across 29 states and seven union territories in India.
The BJP has also planned to organize an all party prayer meeting at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Delhi on 20th August. The prayer meeting will also be open to the public to offer their respect to the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The all party prayer meet will be followed by a similar event on 23rd August in Lucknow, which Vajpayee represented in the Lok Sabha, before the ashes are immersed in the River Gomti. The ashes of Vajpayee will be immersed in most of the holy rivers of the country including Sabarmati, Narmada, Tapti, Mahanadi, Brahmaputra, Godavari, Meenachil and Jhelum.
Atal Bihar Vajpayee, one of the most loved Prime Minister of India passed away on the 16th August due to prolonged illness. He was cremated with full state honours at the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal near the Yamuna’s banks on Friday.
