In another major setback for Lalu Prasad Yadav, the Jharkhand High Court has rejected the bail application of the former Chief Minister of Bihar in the fodder case and also ordered him to surrender before 30 August to the Ranchi Jail authorities.
Lalu Prasad Yadav had earlier filed a bail plea in the court seeking a three-month additional extension to his current bail period citing medical reasons. However, the high court rejected his plea, as it has already been extended twice citing on medical grounds.
The CBI had opposed the idea of any more fresh extension of bail to the convicted Lalu Prasad Prasad Yadav. Earlier on August 10, the Jharkhand high court had extended the provisional bail of the RJD supremo till August 20.
Prabhat Kumar, Lalu’s lawyer said that “This means that Lalu would have to leave his treatment in Mumbai midway and go back to the Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi.” He further added that Lalu will be brought to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi from Mumbai’s Asian Heart Institute where he is currently admitted.
Reportedly, Lalu Yadav can still appeal for the bail again after he undergoes thorough medical examination conducted by the team of jail doctors.
Lalu Prasad Yadav has been found guilty for indulging in series of fodder scams when he was the Chief Minister of Bihar and currently serving a total of 14 years in jail. He and his family, including daughter Misa Bharati and son Tejashwi Yadav, are facing several cases related to disproportionate assets and also for conducting benami transactions. Addition to this Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family, including Tejashwi Yadav are accused in multi-crore Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) scam.
