Triple Talaq Bill: Congress MP Hussain Dalwai invokes Lord Ram, says even Shree Ram ‘once left Sitaji’

Amidst the ongoing Triple Talaq Bill debate where the Centre seeks to bring in amendments in the draft triple talaq bill, which is supposed to be tabled today in the Rajya Sabha, Congress MP Hussain Dalwai today invoked Lord Ram and said that women have always been treated unfairly in all communities and how Lord Ram had also left Sita after doubting her.

Likening the Agneepariksha, where Sita had to prove her chastity after returning from Lanka, followed by her exile to triple talaq, Dalwai said that not just Hindus but even Hindus, Christians, Sikhs and every male-dominated society treats women unfairly. Earlier, too, Dalwai had made a controversial statement. In July, he had come out in support of Asaduddin Owaisi and questioned Prime Minister Modi on the number of Muslims in the armed forces.

However, later Dalwai retracted his statement and apologised for hurting religious sentiments. As reported by Times Now, he said that he respects Lord Ram and Sita and he did not intend to hurt anyone’s feelings by his statement. This is not the first time a Congress leader has dragged Hindu faith to justify barbaric practices of the minority community. Earlier, senior Congress leader cum lawyer Kapil Sibal, who is famous for the zero loss theory in the 2G scam, had argued that ‘if Hindus’ faith about Rama’s birth at Ayodhya can’t be questioned, then triple talaq, a matter of faith for Muslims shouldn’t be.‘ Except, triple talaq is not a matter of faith, but a matter of practice.
