Delhi: ‘Chinese spy’ held for running for spy racket, Indian Passport and Aadhaar Card seized

A Chinese national has been arrested by Delhi Police’s special cell for allegedly running a spy ring. The 39-year old arrested man is identified as Charlie Peng from Majnu Ka Tilla in Delhi, who was arrested on September 13.

The top-secret intelligence operation was conducted against the Chinese National, as there were doubts that the arrested individual was running an ‘espionage network’. The police have recovered Indian Passport and also an Aadhaar card from him.

Reportedly, apart from the documents, the Delhi Police have recovered a Fortuner SUV, Rs 3.5 lakh in Indian currency and 2000 USD and over RS. 22000 in Thai currency belonging to him. According to the Special Cell of the Delhi Police, they have recovered several incriminating pieces of evidence from a house in Gurgaon, where he has also had an office and was also running a foreign currency business.

The Delhi Police produced Peng before the court of chief metropolitan magistrate Deepak Sehrawat on Thursday and obtained the custody of till Monday. The police said that Peng is involved in ‘anti-national’activities and need time to question him regarding his nature of work in India.

The police claim Peng travelled to India five years ago and married an Indian girl. He has been moving around mostly in the northeastern states and Himachal Pradesh and also got a passport from Manipur. His Aadhaar card mentions an address from a residential society in Dwarka in southeast Delhi. Police believe that he was running a currency exchange firm which was being used to carry out hawala transactions.

Police believe that Peng is a trained agent and the investigators are trying to ascertain if he has any connection with the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China.
