After dangerous selfies, now strip tease on Delhi’s Signature Bridge, security tightened

The Signature Bridge was supposed to have dedicated and safe selfie spots. But it seems that there are no such dedicate spots on the bridge, and people are risking their lives to take selfies on the bridge, violating all safety norms.

Newly inaugurated Signature Bridge of Delhi has again emerged to be in the centre of controversies soon after a video showing some transgenders stripping there was posted on social media. One can see the transgenders stripping, unclothing in the public and posing for photos near the Signature bridge. In a tweet posted on Wednesday 14th November, @ajju_tweet wrote “#SignatureBridge was inaugurated few days ago and see what Delhites are making it of it. It seems people have forgotten their moral values. There is a reason #Delhi has a bad name in India and in world. See the ruckus people are creating.”

A group of youths can also be seen in the video interacting with these transgenders. Men standing on either side of the road also can be seen watching their obscene acts.

He then tweeted two more videos in the thread saying “People are behaving like animals and this can be very dangerous for traffic. Not the govt, not the police, only people of Delhi are responsible for this. How can a family travel and what the kids will learn.”

As expected, netizens after seeing these videos started criticising the Arvind Kejriwal government and Delhi Police for their inaction. Some people also questioned about the authenticity of the videos as they found graphics of the videos unconvincing but later Times Of India did a fact check in which they found these videos to be authentic. In their article, TOI claims to use video verification tool to prove the authenticity of the video. Then they got in touch with Delhi Police which confirmed to them that the incident happened at the newly inaugurated Signature Bridge and that an FIR has been filed against unidentified people.

A day after the incident, Delhi Police arrested three of them and seized their scooters. Police later found out that the same people were also involved in a similar incident at Hauz Khas where also a video of one of them stripping in a car went viral. A case under sections of obscenity has been registered based on the prima facie investigation.

One more person named Sarthak Goyal whose twitter handle goes by @hartlyspeeking claimed to be present at the spot. According to him, the transgenders were drunk. In a shocking revelation, he said that these transgenders were first trying to enter a Chhath Pandal of Wajirabad where Police had to pay them to keep away from the place.

Police have also written to the civic authorities to install informative boards cautioning people against clicking selfies and traffic police issuing challans against violations. Police patrols teams have also been deployed on the bridge. In a reply to Delhi MLA Kapil Mishra’s tweet, Veenu Bansal, DCP of North East Delhi tweeted from his official handle and informed that Patrolling has been enhanced in the area and suitable legal action is being ensured upon the violations.

The signature bridge is in controversies since its very inaugural function when AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan was caught on camera pushing MP Manoj Tiwari. Earlier, BJP Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari had clashed with Aam Aadmi Party supporters at the site of the inauguration when he was protesting against the alleged denial of invitation.

According to media reports prior to the inauguration of the bridge, it was supposed to have dedicated and safe selfie spots. But it seems that there are no such dedicate spots on the bridge, and people are risking their lives to take selfies on the bridge, violating all safety norms. People are seen climbing on the cables, parking on the road to take selfies etc, which are both dangerous and create traffic problems.
