NDTV misquotes PM Modi, corrects the report only partially after netizens point out the ‘fake news’

Prime Minister Modi while addressing a rally in poll-bound Rajasthan pointed out that Congress has been playing politics over the Ram Mandir issue at Ayodhya. Modi was speaking about power politics Congress indulges in.

From 48:00 minutes onward, PM Modi could be heard saying Congress MP from Rajya Sabha had argued in the Supreme Court and requested to delay the hearing on Ram Mandir as quite a few elections are coming up. PM Modi was taking a dig on Congress MP and lawyer Kapil Sibal who, while representing the Sunni Waqf Board in Supreme Court had asked the court to defer the trial until after 2019 or as many inferred, until the 2019 Lok Sabha elections have concluded.

NDTV, however, chose to misquote the Prime Minister and said that Modi had claimed that Congress chose an ‘early resolution’ to the case.

NDTV misquotes PM

NDTV even tweeted the same, citing ANI as the source.

Interestingly, ANI had quoted the exact opposite of the same.

Many Twitter users pointed it out to NDTV that they have misquoted the PM and that what they are claiming is actually ‘fake news’.

Some users even took a dig at NDTV’s Executive Editor Nidhi Razdan, who was pulled up by Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj for spreading disinformation.

After over an hour of publishing the original story, NDTV quietly changed the headline of its report. The subtitle still remained unchanged, though. Subheading still says that Congress leaders sought “early” resolution of the Ram temple.

NDTV edited report

In fact, even for the 4 pm update, NDTV did not change the subtitle which continued spreading the ‘fake news’.

Subtitle continues to misquote the PM.

This is the second time in last one week that NDTV has been caught on the wrong foot. We have documented NDTV’s incompetence extensively here at OpIndia.com.
