The actor turned politician Prakash Raj, speaking at the annual book fair in Sharjah, responded to the Sabarimala row, which has recently taken the centre stage. He said he has “no respect” for the religion which “prevents women from worshipping”.
He said, “Everyone believes that a woman has given birth to us. We call her the mother earth. If she wants to pray, let her. The religion which doesn’t allow my mother to pray is not a religion. The devotees who don’t allow my mother to worship are not actual devotees and the God who denies her is not the actual God”.
Prakash Raj completely missed that there is no ‘ban’ on women worshipping. It is an age-old custom in one temple, of one deity, among the crores of deities in Hinduism that women between the ages of 10 and 50 don’t enter the temple. Thus, Raj’s statement when he says that the religion or the deity disallows women from worshipping is an outright lie.
The actor who is known to be extremely politically active has many a time been caught on the wrong foot for his contentious remarks against Hindutva and for peddling lies innumerable times brandishing his hate for the Prime Minister.
India today had broadcasted a show named ‘Karnataka Panchayat on March 31, with Raj as one of the invitees. All his rhetorics then were backed up by the claim that Hindutva is ‘uncultured’ and ‘ritualistic’ and has no place in India.
He was also called out for spreading lies on Twitter trying to tarnish the Prime Minister’s UK visit in April 2018. He had then shared a post with old pictures claiming it to be pictures of Modi UK trip. We had, however, busted his malicious attempt to defame Modi.
Prakash Raj has turned spreading lies into an art form. We had written about how Raj had spread the fake news about BJP in a bid to malign Yogi Adityanath. He had also distorted BJP leader Ananth Kumar Hegde’s statements to mislead people on Social Media. His hypocrisy and political opportunism were also evident when he spoke about the Mahadayi row but earlier had refused to comment on the Kaveri dispute.
With Prakash Raj habitually spreading fake news and hate, it is no surprise that he decided to denigrate Lord Ayyappa, Sabarimala devotees and Hindus with fake news yet again.
