Congress is a lollipop company selling fake promises to farmers: PM Modi in Ghazipur

PM Modi in his speech urged the masses not to get lured by election time promises made by deceptive leaders as such promises never offer a stable solution for problems.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a one day visit to Ghazipur and his constituency Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh today. Modi first visited Ghazipur and laid down the foundation stone of a Medical College there. He released a postal stamp on Maharaja Suheldev of Ghazipur to commemorate his contributions. He is scheduled to visit Varanasi later today where he is expected to inaugurate the International Rice Institute (IRRI) and South Asia Regional Centre (ISARC) on the campus of National Seed Research and Training Centre (NSRTC) in Varanasi.

While addressing the public rally at Ghazipur Modi hailed the legendary king of the region. He started his speech in the local language which brought cheers to the crowd.

He spoke about how efforts are being made to make Purvanchal into a medical hub, which has so far been lagging behind in terms of the availability of medical facilities. Once the Medical College which is being constructed with a cost of around 250 crores is ready, the District Hospital will have 300 beds. Ghazipur is soon going to have modern medical facilities and also meritorious doctors once the Medical College comes up, the PM said. Talking about the work being done by the government in the area of health, the PM said that this is the first time after independence that the health of the middle class and poor of the country is being given priority.

Modi said that his government has resolved to commemorate every individual who contributed towards the security and progress of the country. He praised his government for discouraging the trend of making last moment promises during elections to lure the voters and for significant changes in the working of the government and making it more accessible for the common man. Pointing at the promises made by the Congress party during the recent State Assembly elections, Modi attacked the newly elected governments in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh for making people stand in long queues even to get urea.

He called the Congress a Lollipop Company which made a backdoor entry in Karnataka and gave the people lollipop of fake promises in the form of farm loan waiver. He said that Congress had promised to waive off the loans of lakhs of people in Karnataka but they waived the loans of only 800 people. Modi urged the people not to get lured by such promises made during election time for votes as these promises do not offer a stable solution for the problems. He reminded the people of similar promises made by Congress before the 2009 elections which never came to fruition. He asked the people if they will trust such Lollipop Companies again.

Prime Minister urged the people to be aware of the lies of the Congress Party. Questioning the intention of the Congress Party Modi said that if they were so committed for the benefit of the farmers why they did not implement the recommendations of Swaminathan Commission which had recommended to fix the Minimum Support Price (MSP) at one and a half times of the cost. He said that the recommendation was later implemented by the BJP government.
