Prime Minister Modi's 52nd address to nation via the radio programme Mann Ki Baat

Prime Miniter Modi addressed the nation, through his radio program called ‘Mann ki Baat’. 27th January’s episode was 52nd Mann ki Baat and 2019’s first address to the nation. PM Modi talked about various aspects, ranging from tireless efforts of the election commission to unwavering spirit of the sportspersons.

PM Modi pays condolences to late Siddaganaga Matha seer Shivkumar Swami

At the beginning of the address, PM Modi remembered Siddanganaga Matt Shivkumar Swami and his efforts towards the betterment of society.

“We received a sad piece of news this month. Shivakumar Swamiji left us for his entire life for the service of the nation. He spent the 111 years of his life working for the social, educational welfare of thousands of people” PM Modi said.


In 2007, former President APJ Abdul Kalam had also visited Shivakumar Swami. PM Modi shared the poem recited by Dr Kalam to Swami, essaying the mission of the Math.

PM Modi lauds tireless efforts of Election Commission of India

On 25th January, the country celebrated the National Voters Day, commemorating the foundation of Election Commission of India.

“The scale on which the elections are conducted in our country amazes the world. The way, our Election Commission puts efforts for successful execution of elections, leaves every Indian proud of the institution” PM Modi said. He also pointed out that the institution of Election Commission is older than the Republic of India.

PM Modi further added that be it land mass of Himachal Pradesh which is 15000 feet above sea level or remote locations of Andaman and Nicobar Islands or Gir forest, Election commission successfully holds the election for people in that region. He also thanked security personnel, the state unit of the election commission and other workers of the institution, for their selfless contributions to the strengthening of democracy.

PM Modi remembers Netaji Subash Chandra Bose

On 23rd January, PM Modi inaugurated a museum at Red Fort, commemorating the struggles of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose and his Indian National Army.


PM Modi said that during the inauguration of Netaji’s museum, family members of Netaji gifted him a cap that Netaji himself used to wear. He said that he has kept the cap in the museum, so that it can inspire the young generation, visiting the museum.


“I also admire the importance of radio, and that’s why I use this platform to spread my message to masses. Similarly, Netaji also had a special bond with radio, and used it to reach the masses” PM Modi said. He also talked about his October 2018 visit to Port Blair, where he had unfurled national flag to commemorate 75 years of Azad Hind Government.

PM Modi remembers Vikaram Sarabhai and his contribution to space programme of India

PM Modi had inaugurated a statue of space Scientist Vikaram Sarabhai in Ahmedabad, recently. PM Modi spoke about his contribution to the space science, that helped India stand with the world.

PM Modi lauded efforts of Indian youngsters, putting efforts into the building of satellites and sounding rockets. PM Modi asserted that in the last four years we have sent several spaces missions, that are more than the number of them sent in the last 6 decades of Independence. He also reminded countrymen, that our agencies are preparing to launch Chadrayaan mission to the moon, to mark our presence there.


PM Modi said that space mission has also aided in government’s schemes like Housing for All and MGNERGA, by geotagging the beneficiaries. This, he said, has led to more accountability in public-friendly schemes.

PM Modi talks about the importance of sports

PM Modi emphasised on the fact that if we want our players to perform well at the global level, then we should focus on strengthening the local ecosystem of sports.


PM Modi talked about the sportspersons taking part at the event of Khelo India (Play India). He cited the example of Maharashtra’s Pune, where 18,000 people took part in the sports event.

PM Modi talks about the Swachh Sundar Shuachalya drive

“You would have heard a lot about beauty contests. Have you ever heard about the beautification of toilet drive?” PM Modi asked. He was referring to Swachh Sundar Shauchalya mission undertaken by common citizens to keep public and personal toilets clean and tidy.


He said that around five lakh fifty thousand villages across 600 districts have been declared open defecation free. He said that this will homage Mahatma Gandhi on the 150th birth anniversary, who himself was conscious about clean and tidiness.
