Pakistan recalls its High Commissioner to India for ‘consultations’ amidst tensions following the Pulwama terror attack

This is the latest move in the diplomatic breakdown between the two countries in the aftermath of the Pulwama Terror Attack. Earlier, Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria had been called to Delhi for consultations on diplomatic action against the country.

Mohammad Faisal, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, has stated that the Pakistani High Commissioner to India has been called back for consultations. He left for Pakistan earlier his morning.

This is the latest move in the diplomatic breakdown between the two countries in the aftermath of the Pulwama Terror Attack. Earlier, Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria had been called to Delhi for consultations on diplomatic action against the country.

India had also withdrawn the ‘Most Favoured Nation’ tag to Pakistan and then proceeded to impose a 200% customs duty on all goods imported from there.

Prime Minister Modi has made it clear that Pakistan will be made to pay a heavy price for the transgressions. He has minced no words in stating that India is considering all options to avenge the murder of our soldiers. Under such circumstances, Pakistan recalling their High Commissioner could be signs of things to come.

Meanwhile, the signs have been ominous for Pakistan. Iran, too, had accused them of supporting the terrorists that organized a suicide bombing against Iranian forces that led to the death of 27 of their soldiers. They had also threatened Pakistan of retaliation if they did not take any action against the terror group.

On 16th February, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj made a surprise visit to Iran on her way to Europe and had a meeting with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Seyed Abbas Araghchi.

“Iran & India suffered from two heinous terrorist attacks in the past few days resulted in big casualties. Today in my meeting with Sushma Swaraj the Indian FM, when she had a stopover in Tehran, we agreed on close cooperation to combat terrorism in the region. Enough is enough!” Seyed Abbas Araghchi had tweeted, after meeting with MEA Sushma Swaraj.
