After cropping Rafale documents, The Hindu reports half-truths to cover up Nehru’s UNSC seat blunder

It is not surprising that several Congress loyalists have jumped in to cover the lies that have been sustained and propagated for decades now to portray former Prime Minister Nehru as a "larger than life" superhero.

The Hindu, after getting caught for deliberately cropping off an internal note of the Ministry of Defense to do a hit job against the Narendra Modi government, the media organisation has yet again resorted to peddling half-truths to wash away former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s blunder of not only refusing to accept a seat at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) but also gifting it to China.

As China blocked India’s bid to declare Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar a global terrorist for the fourth time, a debate has erupted in the country which revolved around the Nehruvian blunder of rejecting the UNSC permanent seat that could have changed India’s geopolitical stature forever. However, minions of the Congress, including some Congress friendly media are reluctant to accept certain inevitable facts that Nehru’s false sense of idealism cost India dearly.

The Hindu, which often peddles leftist ideals, published an article with half-facts to state that former Prime Minister Nehru had categorically denied receiving any formal or informal offer of a seat for India in the UN Security Council. Citing its own report dated September 28, 1955, the Hindu went on to claim that Nehru categorically denied that a UNSC seat was ever offered to India.

The Hindu report with half-truths regarding Nehru’s denials

“He made this statement in reply to a short notice question in the Lok Sabha on September 27 by Dr J.N. Parekh whether India had refused a seat informally offered to her in the Security Council,” wrote Hindu in its report by deliberately ignoring the other events that had occurred few days prior to Nehru’s statement in the Parliament.

The Hindu in an attempt to insulate Nehru from any further criticism deliberately ignored to state facts regarding a letter written by the then Prime Minister Nehru to the Chief Ministers admitting that he had indeed received an informal offer from the US for a UNSC seat. According to Twitter Historian, True Indology, a month earlier, on August 2 1955, Nehru in his letter to Chief Ministers had clearly mentioned that there was indeed an informal offer from the United States for a UNSC seat. True Indology further states that Nehru had denied it as he felt that taking the seat “would be unfair to a great country like China”.

Nehru, who had earlier on August 1955, admitted that he had indeed got an informal offer of UNSC seat, which he claims that he rejected it. However, a month later, according to the Hindu, he contradicts his own statement to say that there has been no formal or informal offer of UNSC seat. It is rather interesting to know, who is speaking the truth here. Did Prime Minister Nehru lie on the floor of the Parliament despite taking an oath under Constitution of India? or is it the self-proclaimed independent media ‘The Hindu’ which is resorting to fake propaganda?

Interestingly, according to True Indology, it was not the first time that Nehru had rejected the offer of a seat at the UNSC. Earlier, in 1950, there was an offer made by the US State Department, which was revealed in a letter to Nehru by his sister Vijayalakshmi Pandit, who was then the Indian Ambassador to the US.

Nehru, the hero of Indian left-liberals, however, replied to this letter by unequivocally rejecting the offer. He said the UNSC seat would break “the impeccable relations between India and China”. “It would be an affront to China” and he would “press for China’s admission in UNSC,” said Nehru, which was quoted by True Indology.

It is not surprising that several Congress loyalists have jumped in to cover the lies that have been sustained and propagated for decades now to portray former Prime Minister Nehru as a “larger than life” superhero. Despite their attempts to alter history, facts have emerged regarding the Nehruvian blunders and the legacy that has been carried throughout the next decades which has not only hindered India’s growth prospects but diminished political stature of India globally.
