Madhya Pradesh: After failed loan-waiver scheme, Rahul Gandhi makes a big u-turn on ‘unemployment allowance’

The scheme which is supposed to be called 'Vivekananda Yuva Shakti Mission' promised to cover about 7 lakh unemployed urban youth in the initial stage. The new scheme will provide skill training for 10 days and then 90 days’ employment through urban bodies in the initial phase.

After its misadventure with farm loan waiver, the Congress party has been once again exposed as the earlier promise of Congress party President Rahul Gandhi to provide ‘unemployment allowance’ to the youth of Madhya Pradesh has turned out to be yet another ‘dud’.

Prior to Madhya Pradesh assembly elections, the Congress party led by Rahul Gandhi had promised several sops for the voters of the state. In its party’s manifesto, Congress President Rahul Gandhi had announced that one young member of a family would get an unemployment allowance of Rs.10,000 for a period of three years. However, the promise of ‘unemployment allowance’ has also been turned out to be another ‘lie’ similar to Congress party’s loan waiver scheme.

The Congress government headed by Kamal Nath has taken a U-turn pertaining to fulfilling its obligation of providing unemployment allowance to the youth of the state. The Kamal Nath government has now decided to implement a ‘heavily-tailored’ job allowance scheme that will assure Rs 4,000 per month to unemployed youth for a period of 90 days contrary Rahul Gandhi’s promise of Rs.10,000 allowance for the period of three years.

The scheme which is supposed to be called ‘Vivekananda Yuva Shakti Mission’ promises to cover about 7 lakh unemployed urban youth in the initial stage. The new scheme will provide skill training for 10 days and then 90 days’ employment through urban bodies in the initial phase.

According to the initial promise made by Congress President Rahul Gandhi, unemployed youth from a family was supposed to get Rs.10,000 per month for a span of three years, which accounted for Rs.3,60,000. However, the new scheme ‘Vivekananda Yuva Shakti Mission’ promises only Rs.4,000 for only a three month period amounting to just Rs.12,000 for unemployed youth. The unemployment allowance is straight away decreased by a staggering 97 per cent on what it was earlier promised.

This is not the only dubious promise of the Kamal Nath, as Congress government’s promise to waive-off farms loans under Jai Kisan Rin Mukti Yojana has turned out to be a debacle. The politics of dubious loan-waivers have not only taken the lives of the farmers but also created a stir amongst the poor farmers in the state.

Reportedly, a massive loan-waive scam has also been brewing in the state of Madhya Pradesh after reports emerged that various beneficiaries listed by the government eligible for farmer loan waiver did not even exist in reality. Many discrepancies and irregularities are already being unearthed in the loan waiver schemes. The farmers have now, threatened to commit ‘mass suicide’ after their names appeared on the state government’s loan waiver list even though they do not have any dues or have loans far smaller than the ones that are listed.

The government soon after assuming power in Madhya Pradesh had set in new conditions to waive-off farms loans contrary to its earlier promise of unconditional loan waiver. In addition to this, the Congress governments in both Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are facing severe outrage from the farmers within weeks of their government formation, as both governments in the respective states had created a crisis by mismanaging the supply of urea.

The Congress party led by Rahul Gandhi often claims that his party has waived off farm loans in many states including Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Punjab. As evident from the massive suicides and alleged scams, it is clear that Congress party has been exposed yet again for failing to uphold its promises. After, its loan-waiver misadventure, Congress party has yet again failed to keep up the promise of providing ‘unemployment allowance’ to the youth as declared during the assembly polls.
