The government of Jammu and Kashmir has withdrawn the government accommodation provided to Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president Ghulam Ahmed Mir yesterday. As per reports, earlier, the government had also withdrawn the security provided to other Congress leaders Shameema Raina and Imtiyaz Khan.
Reports say that Congress leaders have termed the move as unfortunate. JKPCC president Ghulam Ahmed Mir is the Lok Sabha candidate from Anantnag constituency and he is to file his nomination today. The JKPCC has reportedly questioned the move to remove security from its party leaders.
As per reports, Mir had government accommodation at Friends Colony near the airport at Srinagar. Mir has reportedly attacked the state and central government after the move and has stated that the central government is trying to restrict the movements of Congress leaders by withdrawing their security.
Mir has also stated that the government is putting the lives of Congress leaders at risk and if any untoward incidents happen it will be solely the government’s responsibility.
It is notable here that the government had launched a crackdown on many separatist leaders in Jammu and Kashmir after the Pulwama attack. The security covers provided for many Hurriyat leaders had been withdrawn.
The government had also banned radical organisation Jamaat-e-Islami, frozen its bank accounts and raided many of its leaders. The Hurriyat leaders are also facing investigation by the NIA in terror funding cases.
