A Delhi court has ordered the CBI to hand over statement and document copies related to the closure report of Najeeb Ahmed’s case to his mother. Ahmed was a student of JNU at the time he went missing three years ago. The investigating agency has been given two weeks time by the court in this matter.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Naveen Kumar Kashyap has directed the CBI to present these documents in either physical or electronic form. He also ordered the investigating officer to appear in person before the court on May 7.
This order comes in the wake of the protest petition that was filed by Ahmed’s mother Fatima Nafee against CBI’s closure report. She had leveled allegations against the investing agency’s keenness to close the case. She questioned the decision to close the case in just two years when the investigation agencies have been successful in tracking people several years after their disappearance. She had even accused that the case was closed because the accused are ABVP students. Ever since her son’s disappearance, she has made desperate attempts to trace him without any success. She is unhappy about the fact that CBI has closed her son’s case in less than two years.
Najeeb Ahmed, an M.Sc student had gone missing from his hostel on October 15, 2016 following a tussle with fellow university students. He has been untraceable since.
The Delhi High Court had allowed the CBI to file a closure report in Ahmed’s case a few months ago. The court had also turned down Nafee’s plea to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate this case. However, the court had informed her that she was free to move the trial court to resolve any pending issues.
