Priyanka Gandhi encourages Congress workers to shout down Rajdeep after he asks about work done by Gandhis in Amethi

Rajdeep's 'historic' interview of Sonia Gandhi where he had asked questions about Saas Bahu relationships and cooking practices in the Gandhi household is the stuff of legends in Indian mainstream media.

Controversial journalist Rajdeep Sardesai who is known to harbour a soft corner for Gandhi dynasty and the Congress party had to bear today the ignominy of being heckled down by a group of Congress supporters for asking seemingly uncomfortable questions of Priyanka Gandhi.

On being put in a fix through his difficult questions, Priyanka Gandhi in no time egged on the supporters behind her to shout Rajdeep down and render his questions irrelevant.

Priyanka Gandhi was in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi for election campaigning when Rajdeep Sardesai got hold of her and asked her why there has been no development in Amethi despite generations of Gandhis holding on to the Lok Sabha constituency of Amethi.

Sensing the question would be difficult to defend for Priyanka, Congress supporters surrounding her started heckling Rajdeep. In the ensuing cacophony, Priyanka Gandhi was seen encouraging the supporters to shut Rajdeep down. In the end, Rajdeep found himself thoroughly worked up for asking an unnerving question of the Gandhi scion.

It is noteworthy to mention that Rajdeep Sardesai has often showered unwarranted admiration for the Congress party and provided a long rope to the Gandhi dynasty while being extremely critical of the ruling party BJP, especially India’s PM Narendra Modi. His ‘historic’ interview of Sonia Gandhi where he had asked questions about Saas Bahu relationships and cooking practices in the Gandhi household is the stuff of legends in Indian mainstream media.

Keeping the long tradition of loyalty alive, Rajdeep, however, hailed Priyanka as “candid and combative”.

However, that does not negate the glaring fact that time and again, uncomfortable questions have been avoided by the Nehru Gandhi dynasty. Sometimes the questions are silenced with the fancy dressing of a pliant media’s careful artistry of words and sometimes, with sheer hooliganism of party workers.

This is ironic not only for Rajdeep himself but for Priyanka and Congress too because they habitually accuse the BJP and PM Modi of being uncommunicative and not facing ‘difficult questions.’

The incident shows that Priyanka Gandhi approves the lumpen behavior exhibited by her party’s workers. Eliticism and self-obsession have been reflected in Priyanka’s behaviour right from the beginning. She had once responded to a question regarding Rahul’s rival in Amethi Smriti Irani with “Who”, pretending she is not even aware of Irani’s existence.

In another instance, Priyanka has asserted that from matchboxes to missiles, whatever India has achieved so far, is only due to her family.

In another shameful instance displaying the depths to which the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty’s politics has plunged to, in a video that surfaced yesterday, Priyanka Gandhi was seen watching in amusement, giggling in excitement as little kids were encouraged to abuse PM Modi in filthy language.

The battle of Amethi is going to be one of the most interesting fights in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections as Union Minister Smriti Irani contests against the Congress chief Rahul Gandhi. Irani has been tirelessly working for the betterment of Amethi and its development even after losing the seat to Rahul Gandhi in 2014. Sensing a Smriti wave in Amethi, the Congress president had to scurry away to the southern seat of Wayanad to file his nominations on the supposedly ‘safe seat’ as a face-saver should he lose Amethi to Smriti Irani.
