Muzaffarpur: After encephalitis wreaks havoc, skeletal remains of several bodies found behind SKMC Hospital

Speaking to news agency ANI, SK Shahi, Medical Superintendent of SKMCH has said, "Postmortem department should do it with a humane approach. I'll talk to the Principal & ask him to constitute an investigating committee." An investigation team said unclaimed bodies were being burned behind the hospital.

Bihar’s SKMC Hospital in Muzaffarpur has been under media and public scanner since the news of the deaths of over 100 children has been noticed by the nation. Many parts in Bihar, particularly the Muzaffarpur area is reeling under an encephalitis epidemic as hundreds of cases have been reported from this region.

Now, as per reports, several skeletal remains have been unearthed behind the hospital premises, drawing serious concerns over the management issues and lackadaisical approach of healthcare authorities of Muzaffarpur’s biggest hospital.

As per reports, several human skeletal remains have been found just behind the hospital and it is suspected that the hospital has been burning the unclaimed bodies after post mortem just behind its premises.

Bihar health minister Mangal Pandey was seen evading media questions after the issue was brought to light. The news of skeletal remains being found just behind the premises has created a storm regarding the carelessness and apathy of authorities in the hospital and government.

The hospital and Bihar’s health system at large were being constantly criticised in the media over the lack of adequate medical facilities and unavailability of doctors. Over 176 people, mostly children, have been reported dead so far in Muzaffarpur and nearby areas. Reports say that over 2 dozen bodies from the post mortem department nearby were burnt together just behind the hospital.

Speaking to news agency ANI, SK Shahi, Medical Superintendent of SKMCH has said, “Postmortem department should do it with a humane approach. I’ll talk to the Principal & ask him to constitute an investigating committee.”

As per latest reports, Bihar health department has given orders to investigate into the skeletal remains being found behind the hospital. The team has reportedly stated that the remains belong to unclaimed bodies from post mortem department.
