On the occasion of Eid, Delhi was marred by mob violence by members of the minority community. After a speeding car had rushed past Namazis in Khujrehi, East Delhi, the devotees went on a violence spree and vandalized a bus. News also spread that 17 people were injured by the car but that was categorically denied by the Delhi Police.

OpIndia.com spoke with DCP Meghna Yadav again today at around 11:20 am and it was confirmed that no FIR has been registered thus far over the damage caused to public property. We were told that the Police was primarily concerned with catching the person driving the car. We were also told that no one was injured in the resultant stone pelting and the Police will consider registering an FIR after it has evaluated the videos that are doing the rounds on social media.
DCP Yadav said that the person driving the car has been identified but she could not tell us the name yet. However, according to reports, the person is one Shahrukh. According to the Police, the car was being driven very rashly.

The Delhi Police has come under intense criticism from people who believe it is cowering before a particular section of the community and is awarding them special treatment. People are also anguished over the fact that not even an FIR has been registered over the mob violence yet.
Unfortunately enough, rampage by Namazis after prayers has become far too frequent in recent times. In April, last year, Muslims had gone on a rampage at Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh supposedly protesting against the rape in Kathua.
Kashmir routinely witnesses such violence with three people dying in post prayer clashes in 2016. In 2017 as well, such violence and clashes broke out between youths and the security forces, in the Srinagar and the Pulwama district.
The post-Friday prayer violence is sadly also not restricted to Kashmir and in August 2017, the police had to fire at a mob in Aligarh which was resorting to incessant stone pelting after Friday prayers. Post-Eid prayers too had seen intense violence in July 2017 when a large mob decided to attack a police station in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.
Last year, youth in Bihar were arrested for playing pro-Pakistan songs to celebrate Eid. Some Muslims ransacked a Temple in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh this year as Hindus refused to stop playing devotional songs on loudspeakers. Five people have been arrested over the matter.
Along expected lines, the secular camp is maintaining a stoic silence over the entire matter. Newly elected BJP MP Gautam Gambhir, who had spoken out over the fake Gurugram ‘hate crime’ incident, is yet to say a single word over the damaging of public property in his own constituency. Others who are quick to denounce Kanwar Yatra and ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans as being inherently violent haven’t condemned the mob violence in Delhi at all.
The Delhi Police reports to the Union Home Ministry. Therefore, people who had great expectations from Amit Shah have expressed disappointment over the fact that no action has been taken against the vandals yet.
