Under-achiever Bhayanak Sen writes to PM Modi, talks about rising ‘achiever-thought-terrorism’

Criticising the 'achievers', 'intellectuals' and seasonal dissenters does not imply one is a bigot.

Under-achiever Bhayanak Sen today wrote a letter to Prime Minister Modi talking about the rising ‘achiever-thought-terrorism‘ that has been gripping the nation since 16th May 2014. OpIndia has an exclusive copy of the letter which has been reduced below verbatim.

24th July 2019,

To,

Shri Narendra Damodardas Modi,

Honourable Prime Minister of India

Dear Prime Minister,

I am a peace loving and proud Indian and deeply concerned about a number of tragic events that have been happening in recent times in our beloved country.

Our Constitution, which originally described India as a ‘sovereign democratic republic’ but became ‘secular’ and ‘socialist’ during the Emergency, where all religions, ethnicities, gender and castes are equal. Hence, to ensure that every citizen enjoys the rights given to him/her by the constitution, my submission is:

    1. The rising cases of ‘fake hate crimes‘ must be stopped immediately. I was shocked to learn that Muslim men these days say that they were beaten up because they refused to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ to be applauded in the community. What happened to destroying the temples to win accolades?Speaking of temples, a temple in the heart of national capital was destroyed by a Muslim mob. Media houses, whitewashed and downplayed the desecration of the Hindu temple. The ‘fact-checkers’ who also run ‘hate crime tracker’ as parallel business so that they can be quoted by ‘achievers’ and ‘intellectuals’ and foreign publications, made the people who destroyed the temple as victims. When will this propaganda stop? The ‘achievers’ and the ‘intellectuals’ keep talking about the Dalit-Muslim unity and how the communities are suppressed by the Hindu majoritarian government of yours. When will the people of both these communities as well as the ‘achievers’ and ‘intellectuals’ wake up and smell the coffee that this narrative is nothing but a farce? You have criticised the genuine cases in the Parliament, and rightly so, Mr. Prime Minister, but that is not enough! What action has been taken against the ones who are spreading falsehood? I strongly feel that they should be taken to task because kab tak narrative ko counter karte rahoge?Regrettably, ‘Jai Shri Ram’ is being referred to as a war-cry and petty criminals are faking it that they were beaten up because they didn’t chant the slogan. We are threatened with ‘unprecedented action’ by the Imam if Hindu boys are not arrested. That too over an incident that never took place. If life imprisonment without parole can be the sentence in cases of murder, why not for people who are trying to disturb the communal harmony of the nation for their vested interests, which is even more heinous? No citizen should have to live in fear in his/her own country! As the highest Executive in this country, you must put a stop to the name of Ram being defiled in this manner.

Have you heard about the Dara Hua Musalman? Of course, you have, you get the letters by the ‘achievers’ and ‘intellectuals’ all the time talking about how the pious Muslims are scared and live in fear under your government. But how come no one talks about the toxic fundamentalism that gets broadcasted through speakers and runs riot?

    2. There is no democracy without dissent. A Hindu woman should not be forced to distribute Quran by an order of the court just because of a Facebook post. It is as condemnable as forcing a Muslim man to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Of course, the assorted ‘achievers’ and ‘intellectuals’ will never ask you why should a Hindu girl be forced to distribute Quran. Dissent is democratic only if emerges from the other end of political spectrum.Criticising the ‘achievers’, ‘intellectuals’ and seasonal dissenters does not imply one is a bigot. Referring to oneself as ‘intellectual’ does not make one ‘intelligent’ and above criticism. They are only a part of the country. Hence, anti-‘achiever’ stand cannot be equated with bigotry. An open environment where dissent is not ridiculed, only helps an ‘intellectual’ become ‘intelligent’.

I hope my suggestions are taken in spirit they are meant – as average Indian genuinely concerned with ‘achiever-thought-terrorism’ who think they are the only ones who know how democracy works.

With best regards,

Yours sincerely,

Bhayanak Sen

An under-achiever
