Mehbooba Mufti advises the Central government to utilise the opportunity to hold talks with the Hurriyat

Mufti said that a moderate faction of the Hurriyat is ready to hold talks and that the Central government must utilise this 'opportunity' to have a dialogue with the Hurriyat.

The Chief of PDP and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has urged the Central government to hold talks with the Hurriyat.

Mufti said that a moderate faction of the Hurriyat is ready to hold talks and that the Central government must utilise this ‘opportunity’ to have a dialogue with the Hurriyat.

Earlier she had come out in support of the separatist leaders after the massive crackdown by the security forces on Jamaat-e-Islami. The security forces had conducted raids and arrested dozens of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders. She had questioned the action of the security forces and remarked: “You can imprison a person but not his ideas”.

Mehbooba Mufti had also opposed the scrapping of Articles 35A and 370 of the Constitution. She had threatened that the whole country would burn along with J&K after the BJP had expressed its commitment of abolishing Articles 35A and 370 in its manifesto ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. A complaint was filed against Mufti in February this year for her remarks over scrapping of Article 35 A where she said that the people of J&K would pick up a different flag instead of the tricolour if the Article was removed.
