All India Cine Workers Association bans and boycotts singer Mika Singh from Indian film industry after his performance in Pakistan

The Indian popstar was invited along with a crew of 14 people for the event. He had reportedly charged USD 150,000 (Rs 1 crore) for his performance at the wedding.

The ever-controversial singer Mika Singh is once again caught in an abysmal mess. After facing severe backlash on Twitter for his performance at an event hosted by Pervez Musharraf’s kin in Pakistan, the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has now banned and boycotted the singer from the Indian film industry.

The association has released a statement articulating that it has taken a tough stand of immediately boycotting all associations of Mika Singh with movie production houses, music companies and online music content providers. The statement released by AICWA President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta also states that the association will ensure that no Indian artist works with Mika Singh henceforth.

The singer came under fire for performing at the wedding festivities of the daughter of former President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf’s billionaire cousin. The Indian popstar was invited along with a crew of 14 people for the event. He had reportedly charged USD 150,000 (Rs 1 crore) for his performance at the wedding.

Interestingly, though Pakistan from its side has imposed a complete ban on broadcasting Indian media content of all kinds including films, songs, etc, Mika, along with his crew was given visa for 30 days for three cities of Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.

The videos of Mika Singh performing went viral on Twitter. Amidst the existing tensions between India and Pakistan owing to the abrogation of Article 370, Mika received a lot of flak on the micro-blogging site. His fans were miffed by the fact that Mika despite the high-strung relations between the two countries went to the neighbouring country to perform at the wedding ceremony of the former Pakistani president’s relative.

What worsened the ire was the fact that the much-hyped and controversial ‘Mika Singh Night’ at the plush Karachi bungalow of billionaire businessman, Adnan Asad, on August 8, had VIP guests which reportedly included family members of India’s most wanted fugitive Dawood Ibrahim, who presently operates from Pakistan and many ISI stooges.

Condemning the Indian singer for putting money above the nation, the association said, “When the tension between the countries is at the peak, Mika Singh puts money above the nation’s pride.”

Imposing an unconditional ban on the singer and boycotting him from all the movies and music contracts with the entertainment companies, the authorities of the AICWA said, “AICWA workers will ensure that no one in INDIA works with Mika Singh and if anyone does, they will face legal consequences in the court of law”.

However, the celebrity singer is not unfamiliar with controversies. Besides being recently detained in Dubai for allegedly sending obscene messages to a minor teenage Brazillian girl, Mika had in 2015, when he was an active supporter of the Aam Aadmi Party, abused many people on Twitter with filthy language.

In 2016, he had made fun of the surname of actress Diana Penty during an event to unveil the music of a movie. During the event, Mika had said “she is Diana Panty, I am Mika Kachcha”, which shocked everyone present. Although Diana kept quite at that time, later she objected to it, saying “I don’t find these jokes funny. I don’t even understand how people laugh at such comments.”
