A team of Delhi police special cell which was on the lookout for one Mohammed Ayub Vicky (32), a resident of Turkman Gate, accused of murdering his girlfriend in cold blood on August 20, finally nabbed him on Saturday. The man is accused of brutally slitting his girlfriend’s throat and thereafter chopping her body in small pieces and dumping it into the canal.

According to reports, Ayub met the victim, Lata alias Salma, during his first visit to a brothel at GB Road which runs from Ajmeri Gate to Lahori Gate, in Delhi, where Lata had been working as a sex worker. Ayub who was then already married with three children out of the first marriage fell in love with Lata.
After an extra-marital affair that went on for four years, Ayub started forcing Lata to quit her profession and live with him instead. Ayub also asked Lata to marry him, despite being already married for over ten years. Miffed by continuous rejection, Ayub conspired to end Lata’s life.
On August 20, Ayub asked Lata to accompany him for an evening stroll. He came prepared with a borrowed scooty and a butcher’s knife hidden inside it. Ayub then took Lata near Bawana canal. He waited for an opportune moment and after reaching an isolated spot, slit Lata’s throat. Ayub then chopped Lata’s body into five pieces so that the body would not be identified and threw the body in the Bawana canal.
Next day though the body was recovered from the canal it remained unidentifiable due to the severe mutilation and subsequent decomposition. A case was registered by the police under Sections 304 and 201 of Indian Penal Code at Kailashnath Katju marg police station after recovering the mutilated body from the canal, and police had started looking for missing person complaints as the body could not be recognised.
On August 30, the Special Cell of Delhi police received a tip-off of Ayub’s whereabouts, who was apparently trying to flee Delhi. The accused was on his way to the Turkman Gate area with an intention to flee Delhi, when the police laid a trap. Around 2.30 pm on August 31 (Saturday), Ayub was apprehended by the police and the scooty which he used to carry out the heinous murder was recovered from his possession.
