Operation Kashmir: Jammu and Kashmir to be a Union Territory with Legislature, Ladakh a Union Territory without Legislature

PM Modi and BJP President Amit Shah

India has witnessed history being made. The Modi government, led by Home Minister Amit Shah moved Bill to scrap the divisive Article 370 that gave Jammu and Kashmir special status and a constitution of its own. In another massive move, Home Minister Amit Shah said that Jammu and Kashmir will be a Union Territory with Legislature and Ladakh will be a Union Territory without Legislature.

The Bill said that Ladakh is sparsely populated but has had a long-standing demand of getting th status of Union Territory. Because of the sparse population of Ladakh, it will now be a Union Territory without Legislature.

The Bill also said that Jammu and Kashmir would now be a Union Territory with the legislature. This is being done with a view of curtailing cross-border terrorism.
