Yechury allowed Srinagar visit to meet his party colleague, any political stunt to be deemed violation of court order

The Supreme Court has also stated that if it is found that Yechury is indulging in any other activity apart from meeting his colleague, it will be considered a violation of the court order.

The Supreme Court has allowed CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury to visit Srinagar to meet his friend and party colleague Yusuf Tarigami. Tarigami has been under detention after the government moved to strip article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

After considering Yechury’s plea, The SC has stated that his request to visit is to be granted only under the condition that he will meet his colleague Tarigami and will not indulge in any political activity.

The SC asked Yechury not to use the visit for political purpose and refrain from raising any issues other than the health and safety of Tarigami.

Yechury has also been asked to submit a report to the SC after his return. Tarigami is a 4-time MLA from Jammu and Kashmir and a member of CPI(M)’s central committee. The party had stated that Tarigami has been unwell.

As per reports, the apex court has also stated that if it is found that Yechury is indulging in any other activity apart from meeting his colleague, it will be considered a violation of the court order. Yechury has submitted an undertaking to obey the court.

Yechury was also a part of the delegation of opposition leaders who had travelled to Srinagar and were sent back from the airport recently.

Apart from this, the SC has also issued a notice to the centre and stated that a 5-judge constitution bench will hear all the petitions related to the abrogation of Article 370 in the first week of October.
