New York Times blames aeroplanes while downplaying the 9/11 terror attacks, updates article after backlash on social media

In one of the worst case of Islamic terrorism denial, the News York Times blamed aeroplanes for the 9/11 terror attacks in a now-updated article. On the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the terror attacks on the United States, the newspaper had published an article today.

NYT article on 9/11

In the article titled “Remembering Those Lost 18 Years Ago on 9/11”, the second paragraph said, “Eighteen years have passed since airplanes took aim at the World Trade Center and brought them down.” In fact, the word terrorism or terrorist were not even mentioned in the article, except for in the subheading, before the article was updated following outrage on social media.

To make matters worse, NYT decided to use this sentence to promote the article on social media, which invited instant backlash.

NYT tweet on terrorist planes

In the same tweet promoting the article, they had also said that more than 2000 people had died the attack, while in fact, approximately 3000 people had lost their lives on that day.

Some people noted how the language of NYT was similar to Democrat Ilhan Omar’s description of 9/11 as when she said “some people did something.”

While others took the concept of NYT article further to describe other events in history.

New York Times was widely criticised for refusing to mention terrorism in the article originally.

New York Times has updated the article now, and the second sentence finally says that terrorists had commandeered airplanes to take aim at the World Trade Centre and bring them down.
