Oxford-educated Imran Khan says trees give oxygen at night, Twitter goes LOL

While addressing an event linked to a scholarship drive for students on Tuesday, Pakistani PM Imran Khan said, “Darakht raat mein oxygen dete hain (trees produce oxygen during the night)”.

However dull or mundane a day might be turning out to be, the Parody country Pakistan has never failed to give the Twitter users their regular dose of entertainment. This time the Prime Minister Imran Khan himself took up the responsibility, starting a laugh riot on social media after claiming in a speech that trees produce oxygen at night.

While addressing an event linked to a scholarship drive that assists students from low-income families on Tuesday, the Imran Khan said, “Darakht raat mein oxygen dete hain (trees produce oxygen during the night)”.

A 15-second video clip, which was shared by the Pakistani journalist Naila Inayat yesterday on Twitter, saw Imran Khan giving his audience a completely new lesson in biology. He could be heard saying: “70 feesad jo green cover tha, vo kum hua, 10 saalo ke andar. Uske natayaj to aane the, kyunki drakht hawa ko saaf karte hai, oxygen dete hai raat ko. Carbon dioxide ko absorb karte hai. (70 per cent of the green cover has been cut down in the last decades. We will have to face the repercussions of that because trees clean the air, they give out oxygen in the night. The trees also absorb Carbon dioxide.)”

This goof-up costed the Pakistan Prime Minister dearly, as it opened up the Pandora’s box on the micro-blogging site, where many mocked him for his “new scientific discoveries”.

Bowing to his undisputed knowledge, few demanded a Nobel prize for the Oxford graduate.

Few took to the microblogging site and shared the chapter on photosynthesis in plants from a 7th standard biology textbook, mocking him for not studying the subject in school.

It is pertinent to note here, the ‘Einstein’ Khan (as the twitter users preferred to prefix him after the buffoonery) had recently mocked Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, for stating that flooding occurs due to heavy rainfall. “Bilwal has startled scientists worldwide by saying ‘jab barish hoti hai to pani ata hai’ (water pours when it rains),” Khan was quoted as saying.

Pakistan is known for such pearls of wisdom. Earlier the former Chief Justice of Pakistan had claimed that the chemical formula of water is ‘H-2-zero’.

Pakistan’s science minister had recently claimed that he is working on making internet services available in Jammu and Kashmir via satellite.

Twitterati was quick to remind the PM that he should revise his own knowledge of science before mocking others.
