Do not make defamatory remarks on deities on social media: Ayodhya DM ahead of Ram Janmabhoomi verdict

The Supreme Court verdict in the Ram Janmabhoomi case is expected on or before November 17.

Ahead of Ram Janmabhoomi verdict, the Uttar Pradesh government has issued a directive disallowing people from posting offensive posts on social media on deities. The four-page directive issued on 31st October which will be in force till 28th December prohibits people from posting defamatory remarks on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Twitter, etc. The order also restricts electronic media from conducting debates in Ayodhya during this period. Ayodhya DM’s order also restricts installation of any idol of any deity as well as victory procession on the day of the judgement.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also asked his ministers to refrain from commenting on the Ayodhya issue. Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has also said that there should not be any celebration on sensitive issues. He appealed to both the communities to maintain peace, whatever the verdict in Ram Janmabhoomi case. Ahead of the verdict, the RSS, too, cancelled several events in November and the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has appealed to everyone to maintain peace.

Meanwhile, ahead of the SC verdict, which is expected on or before November 17, the Muslims in Ayodhya have asked for paramilitary forces be deployed in the district. The ‘worried’ Muslims say while they have full faith in administration, the deployment of paramilitary forces will give them more ‘assurance’. The UP Police has said that they are ready to handle law and order situation ahead of the verdict. UP DGP OP Singh said that UP Police’s intelligence is geared up and if needed the National Securities Act (NSA) will be imposed on those who disrupt the law and order.
