When people run out of arguments, they resort to rhetorics and the favourite one is comparing PM Modi to German dictator Adolf Hitler. Anyone who disagrees with the ‘secular liberals’ is termed a ‘Nazi enabler’. The rhetorics have increased after PM Modi came back in the second term with a thumping majority and a bigger mandate than in 2014.

The Wire journalist Arfa Khanum Sherwani took to Twitter on Sunday to wonder aloud what is the difference between the Nazi Germany of 1930s and India in present time.

The ever helpful netizens took it upon themselves to explain it to her how not only is the comparison flawed but India is exact opposite of how Nazi Germany was.

Starting with the very basic who have cried themselves hoarse shouting fascism.

Some even informed her how the fears of Muslims in India are unfounded.

And some harsh realities of how it is insulting to the Jews of Germany to compare their plight and Holocaust to the minorities in India who are not only safe but enjoy equal and sometimes more than equal rights.

Twitterati also pointed out that perhaps the only incident in India that could be comparable to some extent to the Holocaust was the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits by Islamists who raped, murdered and chased Kashmiri Pandits out of their homes in the valley in the 1990s. Or the 1984 anti-Sikh riots where Congress workers and leaders led mobs to avenge Indira Gandhi’s assassination by murdering Sikhs.
