Taking a cue from the JNU students who have pinned the entire blame of the unfortunate proceedings of January 5, 2020, on the University Vice-Chancellor, the Jamia Millia Islamia university students too have co-opted the JNU template and staged a protest outside the University Vice-Chancellor’s office to demand action against Delhi Police for entering into the campus on December 15, 2019 and subduing the raging anti-CAA riots.

The students who have gheraoed the vice-chancellor’s office have demanded immediate action against the police who entered the University and allegedly beat up the innocent students. They have also demanded FIR against all the police personnel who entered the university and those responsible for allegedly firing bullets inside the campus. The protesting students have also accused the vice chancellor of not having a transparent dialogue with the students.
In addition, the protestors have also demanded compensation for those who sustained injuries due to the police action. The third demand of the students who have gathered outside the vice-chancellor’s office is the postponement of their exams.

One of the protesting students who have gheraoed the vice-chancellor’s office said, “We have some questions for which the Vice Chancellor needs to answer. Why has there been no FIR filed against Delhi Police for barging into University without permission? Why are the students still not provided with requisite security? Why is the vice-chancellor shying away from interacting with the students over the issue? Why is she deploying goons to tackle the protests?”
Students are also demanding the VC resigns to ‘save Jamia’.

On December 15, 2019, during the anti-CAA protests, residents of Jamia Nagar attacked the police with stones, bottles, tube lights though they were there for the safety and security of the students. The protests in Jamia Nagar took an ugly turn as large number of protestors blatantly violent as buses were torched and vandalised by Muslim mobs in the National Capital. Sensing plummeting situation, the Delhi Police entered the Jamia Millia University on December 15, 2019 and flushed out the violent protestors.
