17-year-old Hindu girl from Bangladesh crosses border to escape after her family gets threats from Islamic fundamentalists, handed over to Bengal police

On the night of Tuesday, December 11, a 17-year-old Hindu girl from Bangladesh made a desperate bid to escape from the Islamic fundamentalists in her country. The minor girl had managed to cross the Bangladesh-India border on foot, trying to seek safety. BSF soldiers caught the minor girl at the Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal.

The girl has been handed over to the Bengal police where she will be produced at the Juvenile Justice Board. As per reports, the girl has some relatives living in Jalpaiguri. They have informed police that the girl’s family are ISKCON followers in Bangladesh, and they have been getting threats from fundamentalist Islamic groups.

“She took a desperate step to save her life. Her family are ISKCON followers. They were threatened by fundamentalists that they will all be killed and the girl will be kidnapped. Hence she took a desperate step to escape and seek refuge in India.

BSF has told media that the girl managed to somehow dodge the border guards on the Bangladesh side and crossed over to Indian side of the border on foot during the night. BSF spotted her near Fatehpur border outpost in Chopra block of Uttar Dinajpur district. After an initial inquiry, they handed her over to the state police at the Chopra police station.
