Videos of the incident have been going viral on social media showing the singer appearing for a surprise performance which is interrupted within minutes by a cop who unplugged the microphone as the singer was singing. The interruption left the people gathered there disappointed.
The police said that the performance was organised despite permission being denied for the event. “He has not taken permission. One person from the organising team approached us, but we rejected it. We don’t give permission – it would disturb the public. They came anyway, so we stopped them,” said DCP (Central) Shekhar H Tekkannavar, IPS.
The spontaneous street performance by the singer was supposed to create excitement for him as he is set to hold a concert in the city later today. Ed Sheeran is currently in India as part of his concert tour having already performed in Hyderabad and Chennai.
