Body of Acharya Satyendra Das given ‘Jal Samadhi’, Ram Mandir priest ends his journey in Sarayu River

On 13 February, the body of Ayodhya Ram Mandir chief priest Acharya Satyendra Das was brought to the Sarayu River and the final rites were performed. The priest was given a ‘Jal Samadhi’ (water burial) as per Hindu customs at the Sant Tulsidas Ghat in Ayodhya.

As per reports, the mortal remains of the priest were brought to Ayodhya were taken in a palanquin by the Lata Mangeshkar Chowk to the Sarayu Ghat. Hundreds of devotees had gathered to get a final glimpse of the veteran religious leader and chief priest of the Ram Janmaboomi temple. As the Ram Mandir has been witnessing a very large number of devotees each day because of the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, the palanquin procession with Acharya Satyendra Das’ body was not taken before the Temple.

With chantings and flower offerings, the body of the priest was offered in Jal Samadhi to the holy river Sarayu.

Union Minister Satish Sharma and Ayodhya MP Awadhesh Prasad were present for the final rites of the revered priest. Acharya Satyendra Das breathed his last in Lucknow PGI on Wednesday, 12 February. He had suffered a brain haemorrhage on February 3 and was admitted to PGI in a critical condition. He was 80.
