In Chandigarh, police officials have cracked down on illegal ‘consultancy’ firms spread across the city to facilitate illegal immigration, especially to USA and Canada. As per reports, multiple FIRs have been filed by the Chandigarh police on this regard. 7 individuals, including two women, have been arrested.
The illegal consulting firms have been spread all over the city and have been accused of trapping individuals from Punjab and nearby areas with false promises of better jobs and livelihoods in USA, Canada, Dubai and other places.
FIRs mention section 223 of the BNS and section 24 of the Emigration Act, among other relevant laws.
Milestone Immigration, Greenland Overseas Consultancy, Abroad Plus Consultant, Immigration Consultancy Agency, GS Visa Point, Calgiri Overseas, Dream Future Consultants, Toronto Wings, Vand eracity Overseas, Satyam Immigration are some of the businesses raided by the police, as per a report in the Indian Express.
The report mentioned that from a single agency, 60 passports have been seized.
Agents cheating people of lakhs of rupees to facilitate illegal immigration to USA and Canada, often through risky ‘Dunky’ routes has been in the news recently after the Trump administration started deporting illegal immigrants of Indian origin caught on border areas.
