Delhi: FIR filed against BJP’s Parvesh Verma after AAP files a complaint over alleged MCC violation

The Delhi Police registered an FIR on Wednesday against Parvesh Verma, the BJP candidate from the New Delhi assembly constituency, for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by distributing shoes in the Valmiki Colony under the jurisdiction of Mandir Marg Police Station.

The FIR was filed following a directive from the Election Commission to the Mandir Marg SHO regarding the matter. Earlier on Monday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had asked Delhi Police to take action against Verma based on complaints from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Verma is running from the New Delhi constituency against AAP’s national convenor and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The returning officer (RO) for the New Delhi constituency, in a letter dated January 15, informed the SHO about a complaint accompanied by two video clips purportedly showing Verma distributing shoes to women in the area. Acting on the complaint, the RO instructed the SHO to investigate and register an FIR.
