Bangladesh: Dead body of Hindu fisherman recovered from canal, police claim victim died due to ‘drowning’

On Monday (10th February) morning, the police recovered the dead body of a 43-year-old Hindu fisherman named Bipul Mondal from a canal in Kotalipara upazila in Gopalganj district of Bangladesh.

The victim had been missing since Saturday (8th February). Mondal had reportedly gone fishing but did not return home. A manhunt was launched to find him throughout that night.

On Sunday (9th February), the locals found a flashlight, mobile phone, wet clothes and a boat belonging to the Hindu fisherman.

Kotalipara Police Station OC, Mohammed Abul Kalam Azad, informed that two diving teams were assigned to search the canal area and find the body of Bipul Mondal. However, they did not succeed.

On Monday (10th February) morning, the locals found the body of the victim floating near the canal. The police recovered his body and sent it for post-mortem.

Following a ‘preliminary investigation’, the police claimed that Bipul Mondal died from drowning after falling from his boat.
