Hyderabad: Grandson stabs industrialist over 70 times over a property dispute

28-year-old Keerthi Teja stabbed his industrialist grandfather to death over a property dispute. The deceased, VC Janardhan Rao, was Chairman and Managing Director of the 460-crore Veljan Group of Companies which deals in hydraulics equipment, shipbuilding, energy and industrial applications.

Reportedly, Rao was stabbed over 70 times by Teja. However, the exact number of wounds will be confirmed only after the autopsy.

The argument between Rao and Teja was over a director position in the company. The industrialist had appointed his eldest daughter’s son Srikrishna as director of Veljan Group while he had transferred shares worth Rs 4 crore to Teja, the son of his second daughter Sarojini.

Angry over this, Teja came to his grandfather’s house armed with a knife. His mother was also accompanying Teja. When his mother went to the kitchen to make tea, Keerthi Teja attacked Janardhan Rao and stabbed him repeatedly. When his mother rushed to intervene, Teja attacked her as well. She has been hospitalised with 4 wounds.

Teja was arrested and produced in court. He has been sent to judicial custody.
